Log Home Building Project
Have you ever smelled Eastern Red Cedar? You know, the kind they line hope chests with and use to drive moths from your closets and winter clothes. Yes, that's it! That is what New Frontier Log Homes uses for logs. This is ou chosen wood for our new log home. Even now with the logs sitting in bundles on our driveway you can smell the cedar smell. It is wonderful!
This page has been created to take you along with us on our log home building adventure. Be sure you check back often because I plan to load pictures of the project. We want you to join each step of the way as we follow the leading of our Dear Lord in the creation of this new home. If you are in the area, please stop by, we would love to show you what God is doing in our lives this summer.
After we had a new gravel driveway poured and the footers and foundations excavated, we had new concrete slabs poured for porches along the west end and a small one off the bedroom on the north side.
This slab is on the west end of the basement.
It will provide the foundation for the porch upstairs.
This slab is outside of the bedroom
on north side of the house.
The kitchen will be directly above this bedroom.
We will be adding retaining walls along the dirt banks to finish this job.
The next step was to get the piers to support the porch across the front of the house (the south side) poured and ready.
This is the south side of the basement. This tin roof will be removed and this will become the front of the log cabin. This is where we have formed up and poured the piers to support the front porch. I can't wait to sit on the new porch!
And THEN CAME THE LOGS!!
God's timing was perfect that mild day in June, 2003. Just minutes before the first load of logs arrived, our rented forklift was unloaded.
Even for a licensed forklift driver it is important to get instructions and safety tips.
This prevents unneccessary delays on your job because of injuries caused by unfamiliar equipment.
Parker-Daniil was thrilled to have his pictured made on the forklift with his Papa!
The first load of logs arrived before the delivery truck for the forklift even got off our road. What an exciting time it was to finally have these logs on our property! Yippee!!
God is soo good!
My joy was made complete as I watched Jessie expertly maneuver the logs from the truck to the area of the new driveway we set aside for this purpose.
Parker-Daniil was "over the moon" excited to see his Papa accomplish this task.
That's all for now, but I have two more cameras full of pictures to develop that detail the beginning of construction and the first logs going up. As of today, July 5, 2003, we have three runs stacked all the way around and four across the front. They are soo beautiful!
