Log Home Building Project

As the days passed and the rain continued to fall we began to wonder if we would ever get done stacking logs. Then one day, it seemed like all of the sudden, we were watching our most excellent carpenters set the last log in place.
Through all of the disappointments and frustrations, God has continued to shower His blessings down with the rain. God is soo good!
Getting the logs stacked to the point that we were above the windows took alot of skill and time. Our most excellent construction workers were so careful about making sure that they fit properly and the walls remained square. Those logs will roll in on you if you aren't careful!
Emily standing in office. The next row of logs required careful crafting to insure there was space for settling and shrinkage. Our most excellent carpenters were equal to the task and the job was completed with quality craftsmanship.

Derrin Presley setting log for front porch.

As our most excellent carpenters neared completion for stacking the exterior log walls, it came time to begin the front porch. Each step brought us that much closer to the roof and an end to the water leaking through the ceiling into the basement. God does have a way of ensuring that we will remodel downstairs as well.
James, Derrin and Larry Presley - Almost done!
This is the view from the southeast corner of the house. The large opening where the ladder is will be the fireplace. The large opening to the left is the livingroom window. The doorway to the right is the kitchen door. There will be a porch off the kitchen, across the front of the house, and then down the west end.
I had to include this picture of "Uncle Bubba" (Larry Presley)
smiling over our log home. These guys have provided us with many hours of amusement. They have the best attitudes about their work, even when the temperatures are in the 90's and the humidity is too!
At last we came to the last log and Derrin was our man. He has fearlessly walked the top of these walls while we watched with our breath held.
Each log is held in place by Oly Screws and wood pegs. In this picture Derrin is screwing in the last screw. We were so excited we could hardly contain ourselves!
Our most excellent carpenters jokingly called the wood pegs, "Peggy Sues". In the far corner you can see Larry (aka. Uncle Bubba) using a sledge hammer to drive in the last "Peggy Sue."
Here's that pile of logs after all of the exterior walls were stacked.
The next job that James lined up for Larry and Derrin was the interior log wall. This wall will have twin arched doorways in it leading from the livingroom into the kitchen. What looks like water on the floor is really the black plastic they helps to stop some of the water from leaking into the house below. The black plastic also makes it very hot in there. Poor guys!
This shot is of the exterior looking up at the kitchen windows. We love the way the corner arches turned out. James is a genius when it comes to details!
That's about it for this installment. Be sure you check back soon, for I have more pictures to develop!
